I wanted to hit Kamakura the next day for a surf session, but we were off to Sydney for the Australian debut of my surf line at David Jones. I’d never been down under before, and it was great—in a way, a gentle blend of San Francisco and Hong Kong. We weren’t afraid to be full-on tourists, so we checked to see if water goes down the drain counterclockwise, as they say, and visited the zoo near Manly Beach to pet kangaroos and do koala photo ops. Our launch party at Icebreakers in Bondi Beach was killer. The bar is right above a swimming pool that shares a common wall with the surf, filling up as big waves crash over the wall. Guests included pro surfer Sally Fitzgibbons—the no. 2 ranked female in the world—and her pal, junior champ Laura Enever, who has taken to competing in trials wearing my Roxy neoprene dress. All in all, we were gone seven days, spending only four nights in a hotel and the others sleeping comfortably on United Airlines. (Sleep when you can, eat when you can, I always say.) I like to bring back a little treat for everyone at work—this time, kangaroo and crocodile jerky. Hey, it’s the thought that counts. And soon we’ll be on to our next stop—10 Corso Como in Milan. Bet no one will object to souvenirs from there.

Cynthia Rowley recently teamed up with Roxy for a surf-ready neoprene collection of dresses, skirts, suits, and shoes. After a launch party in New York, Rowley and company hit the road to debut the collection in Paris (at Colette), Tokyo, and Australia. She sent us a little postcard from her travels. Lykke Li was hotter than a volcano in Iceland on Wednesday night when she played the after-party for my Rowley for Roxy launch, where we took over the front window of Colette (below). I absolutely loved her cover of “After Laughter” at André wholesale and Lionel’s L’Appartement (a-”party”-ment).wholesale clothing. Ellen von Unwerth.brand clothing, Joan Juliet Buck, the Plastiscines, Laetitia Crahay, Alex de Betak, wholesale and Caroline Gaimari of Purple were all there. Later, a bunch of revelers couldn’t resist suiting up in neoprene over their clothes and jumping like crazy on the bed. Afterwards, we all rolled over to Le Baron, where Lykke deejayed into the wee hours. The amazing Sarah Lerfel of Colette rocked one of my Gagosian handbags at the after-party and even brought along her mom, Colette’s namesake.

The next leg of our Rowley for Roxy tour brought us to Japan and then Australia. In Tokyo, I enjoyed a quick drive by perennials like Loveless and Rat Hole Gallery in Aoyama, plus the Mori Art Museum, which had up a little solo exhibition by my fellow surfer Jules de Balincourt. At the flagship Quiksilver/Roxy location off of Omotesando, they use this tricked-out tuk tuk (think Vespa meets pedicab; below) to shuttle preferred customers around town. Riding around Tokyo was like being in a single-float parade, with everyone waving and honking at you to say hi. After a launch party, the Roxy team took us for tabletop-grilled mackerel and sake at Nishiogikubo Dan-Ball,Wholesale Diesel jeans, a tucked-away spot you enter through a tiny doorway—great, authentic Japanese food.
